Using Historic Structures as Interpretive Artifacts

 Workshop will focus on aspects of researching and interpreting historic structures, the Department of Interior guidelines for rehabilitation, sources for resource material, historic paint analysis and taking the project beyond the traditional “house museum.”  We will discuss how site –specific research resulted in different interpretive formats of three mid-19th century houses:  

§        The Augustus Crouch House, Old Washington Historic State Park, Washington, Arkansas

§        The Lycurgus Johnson House/Lakeport Plantation, a program of Arkansas State University, Chicot County, Arkansas

§        The Moore-Hornor House, Helena, Arkansas – Delta Cultural Center/Department of Arkansas Heritage  

The workshop will include a site visit and tour of the recently completed Moore-Hornor House. 

YOU MUST BE A MEMBER OF AMA AS OF JUNE 1, 2006 TO ATTEND (See note below)

There is no registration fee.  A food fee of $15 will be collected at registration.  To sign-up, send an email by clicking here, put WITSELL in the subject and include your name.  You are "on the hook" for the $15 fee if you don't cancel before August 14th, even if you don't attend.  The seminar is limited to 25 on a first come - first served basis.  You will receive email confirmation of your registration.  Detailed driving instructions will be sent on August 16th.

Note:  If the course does not fill up, non-members can pay a $25 fee to attend (plus the meal cost of $15).  You can not join after the deadline to get free registration.
