    The Arkansas History Commission, in cooperation with the Department of Information Systems and the Department of Emergency Management, will offer a one-day course entitled “Essential Records” on July 19, 2011 in the MAC Building’s 4th floor conference room on the grounds of the State Capitol.

    The course will prepare participants to:

    Identify your library, museum, or archive’s essential records;

    Analyze and prioritize records, assessing specific risks and identifying protection strategies;

    Specify time frames for essential records availability in emergencies;

    Develop procedures to ensure access to and security of essential records;

    Outline an essential records plan for inclusion in your Continuity of Operations Plan (“COOP”); and

    Become familiar with federal, state, and local COOP regulations and procedures.

    Please contact Jane Thompson at the History Commission (501-682-6905 or jane.thompson@arkansas.gov) to indicate your interest in taking this course and to receive further instructions and information.  If you are sending Jane an e-mail regarding this class, write ESSENTIAL RECORDS CLASS in the subject line.

    Conducted throughout the United States by Council of State Archivists and supported by a grant from FEMA, “Essential Records” is one of a two part series.  The second program entitled Records Emergency Planning and Response will be held later this summer, possibly as a Webinar.

    Both courses are approved and certified by FEMA and are recommended for FEMA’s Professional Continuity Level 1 certificate.
